WEST WARWICK— Today marks the 11th anniversary of the Station Nightclub Fire, and members of the foundation have been working diligently to raise money to construct and ultimately maintain the property once the park is completed.
President of the Station Fire Memorial Foundation Gina Russo explained that the foundation hired Daniel Barry to assist them in raising the rest of the money needed to build the memorial park.
"He'll go out into the community and see how much people really care about the project, so the first part of his job is really research and he'll let us know if the job is really feasible," she said.
She explained that while Barry believes the foundation will be able to collect the money needed, if he decides the project is not feasible, "we might rethink our plan."
"I think it'll happen the way that it is," she added. "I don't think our construction team would have it any other way. They're so supportive and determined to see this built but that doesn't mean we're not open to new possibilities. Something will be there and if by chance we have to downscale we will."
Russo said right now, the foundation has enough money in their budget to begin constructing the park in the springtime but they need more money to complete the park and maintain the property in the future.
