Foote sues four parties, including state and Reales

January 6, 2011

PROVIDENCE – Six days after the sentencing of 27-year-old Laura Reale for a driving charge stemming from the death of Colin Foote, his father – Richard “Robin” Foote – has filed a four-party lawsuit against those “who are responsible” for the fatal crash.

The suit was filed by Foote in Superior Court Dec. 23 and it names the following as defendants: Reale; her father Thomas Reale, who was the owner of her Jetta that was involved in the fatal crash in May 2010; the state of Rhode Island; and the state Division of Motor Vehicles' (DMV) Director Sara Strachan.

No specific monetary amount is listed in the five-page lawsuit, though it states that the funds sought will cover lawyer fees. It further claims that it is “time for those who are responsible to pay up.” It also calls for a jury trail.
