WEST GREENWICH â In any other season, somewhere in this copy youâd read about how the Exeter-West Greenwich girls volleyball team played West Warwick last night in the Division II semifinals, the result was unavailable at press time, check the website for results, then read a story about how the Knights won Monday night, they just want to keep playing well and while their goal is to repeat as Division II champions, theyâre not looking past West Warwick.
This is not any other season and barring an epic disaster that would supersede the sports page, there is no way, based on how EWG played this season and in Monday nightâs quarterfinal match against Pilgrim, that the Wizards upset the Knights.
Because right now, there might not be a team in the state â Division I or II â that can stop Exeter-West Greenwich.
Pilgrim brought their âAâ game Monday night, but the Knights B-plus effort was more than enough to end the Patriots season in a 25-15, 25-13, 25-9 win that was close for about 10 points before EWG completely dominated the match.
âI definitely think we can push it a lot more, but the ambition is there,â said EWGâs Taylor Matook, who led the team with 11 kills Monday. âThe desire to win is definitely whatâs pushing us.â
