The Narragansett Town Beach was quiet on Thursday morning but should be packed on Saturday during Environmental Day.

NARRAGANSETT—Environmental Day is coming to the Narragansett Town Beach. This Saturday, July 16, the Town of Narragansett and Rhode Island Rivers Council will be sponsoring multiple activities on the beach in order to raise awareness about the ocean’s resources and how to use them in a safe, environmentally conscious manner.

“This is a great opportunity for Rhode Islanders to learn about the environment and about the important work of organizations that help protect and conserve our natural resources,” said Town Manager Grady Miller. “Beachgoers will also have fun watching and participating in a number of activities designed to promote ocean and sun safety.”
“This kind of event draws people, and they come from all over to enjoy it,” he added.

Participating organizations include the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Narrow River Preservation Association, and the University of Rhode Island Energy Office/Energy Fellows and Outreach Center. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the south end of the beach.
The RI Rivers Council along with the EPA will offer attendees, particularly children, the opportunity to see a salt water tank containing multiple forms of marine life. They will also provide interactive watershed models.

University of Rhode Island students will also be presenting a watershed model, and several other students and professors will highlight clean, renewable energy strategies. Other environmental organizations which consistently promote the importance of clean water and other eco-safe initiatives, such as the Narrow River Preservation Council, have been invited to speak and offer their own unique information on these pressing issues.
