EAST GREENWICH — East Greenwich police is investigating a possible armed robbery that occurred at the Shell gas station on the corner of Main Street and First Avenue.

EGPD Chief and Interim Town Manager Thomas Coyle said the department received a call Monday evening stating a male allegedly asked the clerk at the Shell station for change for a $20 bill. When the clerk was looking for the change, Coyle said the male allegedly pulled a revolver and demanded all of the money out of the drawer.
Coyle said the suspect was allegedly wearing all black clothing and fled the scene on foot once he got all of the money. Coyle stated the suspect allegedly stole between $100 and $300 from the gas station.
The chief said the only camera footage EGPD has that may have captured the incident on film is from the car wash that is directly across the street from the Shell station.
“We’re still working on it,” Coyle said. “We’re working with the detectives trying to look. But as of right now, we don’t know.”
Coyle said the suspect is still at large. Residents who may have any information pertaining to the incident are to contact the East Greenwich Police Department at 886-8685 or can email anonymously at
