EAST GREENWICH – The auditorium at East Greenwich High School was turned into Le Chat Noir for two nights last week, as the drama department wowed an audience of about 250 with their 10th Annual Cabaret.
Under the direction of Robert Petrucci, Tim Kenney with an assist from band director Brendan Carioux and first-year choral director Dan George, some 50 high school students sang, danced, acted out, sold tickets, displayed and served food and even cleaned up afterwards.
At $10 a pop (and pop song), audience members got to sample vocal selections from “Hairspray,” George and others, while sampling chicken wings, calzones, Stromboli, pizza strips, “a hundred desserts,” all night, according to Petrucci.
“This is the ninth, 10th year we have done the cabaret. Our drama students are required to help us with this annual fund-raiser,” said Petrucci. “We don’t want to just sell candy and cookies to raise money. The kids want to perform. Ten dollars gets you a ticket to a show and food and you can eat all night long. So, it’s a wonderful night.”
Every student who wishes gets the chance to participate on stage, either with solo work or in an ensemble.
