EAST GREENWICH — A light snack and lights on a baseball field...somehow, they just go together.
The East Greenwich Little League and East Greenwich Rotary Club hope they go together for local residents, too, in this year’s 22nd annual Rotary Citrus Drive.
The Rotary’s fundraiser has raised a total of about $250,000 for various community projects over the years, said Mike Gemma, club president.
The subject of this year’s Rotary effort is the East Greenwich Little League, which installed new lights at Cragan Field prior to this past season, enabling the league to play after sunset for the first time since the field was built in 1954.
The $42,000 lighting system was installed by Musco Lighting, official light supplier for Little League International, in March, said league president Bill Anderson. The league paid $10,000 from its operating funds, with the remaining $32,000 due over the next five years.
“We used them for spring and fall ball this year. They’ve been a huge help,” he said.
