DWW agrees to measurements protecting marine ecosystems

May 8, 2014

Deepwater Wind, along with several environmental and conservation organizations, announced an agreement Wednesday to implement measures to protect marine mammals during pre-construction activities for the Deepwater ONE offshore wind farm.

The agreement specifically refers to the protection of the critically endangered North Atlantic right whale in the area of the Deepwater ONE wind farm, which is located in the Atlantic Ocean off the coasts of Rhode Island and Massachusetts, about 17 miles south of Rhode Island, between Block Island and Martha’s Vineyeard. The Deepwater ONE project is separate from Deepwater Wind’s Block Island Wind Farm and Block Island Transmission System projects, which are scheduled for permit hearings before the Coastal Resources Management Council on Tuesday.
