COVENTRYâ Long-time resident Tammy Duxbury has announced her candidacy for Town Council District 5 seat, following the resignation of five-year member Ted Jendzejec.
Duxbury explained that she had âtoyedâ with the idea of running for the town council seat prior to Jendzejecâs resignation, but when he resigned it made her âaccelerateâ the process.
âI think there are some things in town that we can do better at,â she added. âIâve lived here for 23 years and over the last 10 years there have been a lot of issues that have been brought up, particularly over the last several years; weâve had some bad press in the news and I feel we have a good community.â
Although nobody is sure whether a special election will be held to fill the seat or if it will be vacant until November, Duxbury said she hoped âthe town officials will act in a manner which ensures the people of District 5 have a voice on the town council as import issues are decided in the next few months.â
During the past few years, Duxbury has worn many hats local and state-wide. She is currently a member of the Rhode Island Society of CPAs, American Institute of CPAs and has held board positions with several non-profit organizations including Mother Against Drunk Driving, the Coventry Girls Softball League and Citizens Advocating for a Safe Environment (CASE).
