Coventry defeats South Kingstown in five innings

SOUTH KINGSTOWN - With two teams in the winner’s bracket in District 3 All-Star tournament ages 11-12, South Kingstown National and Coventry were set to have a close, highly contested game.
However, the offense only came from one team on Monday, as Coventry defeated South Kingstown in five innings, 13-2, at Tuckertown Field. Coventry exploded offensively in the fifth inning, scoring five runs against South Kingstown. For Coventry, Devyn Vezina had an amazing game at the plate, hitting a three-run homerun in the top of the fifth inning. Veniza also drove home five runners on the game. Coventry hit three homeruns in the game, two in the top of the fifth, with one from Veniza, one from Jayden Voelker, and another from Jake Organ.
For South Kingstown, it was tough to get things going against Coventry. However, in the bottom of the second inning, Shane Jedson hit a two-run home run for South Kingstown to cut the lead to just two runs for Coventry. Pitcher Hunter Roberts had a good game from the hill for South Kingstown, pitching three innings and striking out three batters.
