NARRAGANSETT – The town council discussed further changes to the proposed fiscal year 2015 budget during a work session Monday, bringing down the proposed residential tax rate to $10.05 per $1,000 of assessed value from the originally proposed $10.21.
Finance Director Laura Kenyon told the council about adjustments she made to the proposed budget following prior work sessions including an increase in water rates due to a settlement between United Water and the Rhode Island Division of Public Utilities and Carriers. Kenyon also included a new property assessment base for the town, removed a requested $750,000 for road maintenance and repair, and increased the tax collection rate to 98.5 percent, among other adjustments.
