EAST GREENWICH â The quest to remedy a state Supreme Court decision which left the town in an affordable housing quandary has struck a roadblock, the Town Council learned Monday night.
Town Manager William Sequino said efforts to have the R.I. League of Cities and Towns lobby the General Assembly for legislation that would allow the town to charge residential developers a fee in lieu of building affordable housing units on their properties in this year's session have failed.
âThe league didn't want to pursue it if they didn't have the backing of the R.I. Builders Association,â he said.
