Congressman Langevin comments on RIDOT grant

April 3, 2011

The Department of Transportation (DOT) announced a $4.5 million grant last week South County Commuter Rail.

The purpose of this particular funding, provided to RIDOT, is to maintain the lines running from Providence to Quonset and Providence to
Warwick.

Congressman Jim Langevin strongly supports ensuring the best possible rail system for South County and had the following comment:

"I am pleased to see the continued development of South County Commuter Rail with the economic benefits it brings to the region. We must properly maintain the infrastructure we have in place and expand it for Rhode Island to best compete.

"The effort to provide more links from South County to Providence and Boston, including through the Wickford Junction project, means more opportunities for South County businesses and residents."
