Community members line up to help restore town house

April 30, 2014

The Old Towne House, built in 1807, was moved last fall from its original site (above) at the Cranston-Murphy Funeral Home to the Wickford Elementary property off Boone Street.

NORTH KINGSTOWN—Last fall, the oldest municipal building in the West Bay area was moved from its original site at Cranston-Murphy Funeral Home on Brown Street to the land adjacent to the Wickford Elementary School site. Now, local community members and businesses are working together through delays to properly establish the Old Towne House at its new home.

The town house, originally built in 1807, was moved so that the funeral home could expand, and now the town is looking towards building a foundation for the structure, among other renovations, which has proven more difficult because of structural concerns.
