Click it or Ticket in Coventry

September 16, 2011

COVENTRY--Starting on Sunday, Coventry Police will hold a week-long Click it or Ticket campaign.

The campaign, a part of Operation Blue RIPTIDE (Rhode Island Police Teaming for Impaired Driving Enforcement), which is a grant program provided for by the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT), will start Sunday, Sept. 18 and last all of next week.

Anyone not wearing their seatbelt would be looking at an $85 fine, according to Sgt. Gary Miller of the Coventry Police Department.

Miller said that what people can expect to see is more officers ticketing people for not wearing their seatbelts.

Vehicles can be pulled over “just for that reason,” Miller said, because not wearing a seatbelt has been made a primary offense in the State of Rhode Island.

Police will be looking for drivers and passengers who are not wearing their seatbelts. Police will also be checking to see that child seats are properly installed and that children are properly restrained in those seats.
