EAST GREENWICH – When a family has lost a loved one, especially near the holidays, they don’t want presents. They want presence.

The upcoming Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons can be very difficult, particularly if a family has lost a child.

This is the delicate case at Christ Church, where several parishioners recently have lost children. The grief has torn apart and, somehow, brought together.

In acknowledgement of this, Christ Church will be having a Service of Remembrance on Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 7 p.m. for loved ones who have died. All are welcome.

The service will be an informal and meditative service of worship, with music, candle lighting, and reflection. The service is open to anyone needing God’s healing and hope. A time of refreshments and community will follow.

“We began a few years ago to have an annual Service of Memory before Thanksgiving for a number of reasons,” said Christ Church Pastor Lyle Mook. “When I worked with Hospice many years back, we would have seminars on ‘Handling the Holidays,’ knowing that this is an especially tough season for those grieving.
