WOOD RIVER JUNCTION â€” The Chariho football team got off to a strong start to the season by earning a 37-21 win over Narragansett in a non-league contest under the lights at Chariho High School on Friday night.
Colton Place led the offensive attack for the Chargers in scoring two touchdowns and rushed for 56 yards on eight carries in the first half. Jordan Cassidy added in 51 yards on the ground of his own and also found pay dirt twice. Jansen Williamson had the biggest rush of the game, scampering 65 yards on the first play in the third quarter for a touchdown.
Narragansett had a 56-yard touchdown pass from Mark Griffith in the first quarter to Stephen Smith to give the Mariners the early 7-0 lead before Chariho ran off 31 unanswered. Freshman Denotae Stanley scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter â€“ the second being a 77-yard kickoff return.
