Off campus URI block party gets out of hand

The house at 24 Greene Lane is affixed with a notice of public nuisance in the aftermath of a raucous block party that took place on Saturday in Eastward Look. Students hurled bottles and cans and destroyed several mail boxes during party, which swelled to nearly 1,000 people.

NARRAGANSETT – An estimated 800 to 1,000 partygoers attended a block party in the Eastward Look neighborhood of Narragansett on Saturday afternoon.

At approximately 3 p.m., Narragansett police were called to Greene Lane for a report of a disturbance and parties at two residences on the street. Police Chief Dean Hoxsie told the Narragansett Town Council Monday that the road then filled in behind the officers who were on the call.

“Literally behind their back, the street filled with people,” Hoxsie said. “So we called in the cavalry.”
