JAMESTOWN – A fishing trip turned deadly over the weekend when a boat carrying three friends sank in Jamestown, leading to one fatality.

At 9:50 a.m. on Saturday, Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) Police Officer Sheila Paquette was dispatched to the area of Decatur Ave. in the Potter Cove area of Jamestown, for a report of a boat accident and a search for one of the subjects in the water.

Jamestown Fire Department received a call around 9:37 a.m. that an Asian male was completely soaked and had knocked on a window of a Decatur Avenue residence. The resident told fire dispatch that his friend was in the water and deceased.

Jamestown police and firefighters, along with the Department of Environmental Management (DEM) and the United States Coast Guard, responded to the area. DEM launched one of its boats from their Wickford Marine Base.
