WARWICK — As David D’Agostino, attorney for the Central Coventry Fire District Board of Directors told Superior Court Judge Brian Stern in Friday’s hearing how the board has been focused on working to understand how the district wound up in the predicament they’re in and how to work on best practices going forward to ensure the same mistakes are not repeated.

“Before specific payroll date can be analyzed, it must be understood that payroll reports and records run from January 1 to December 31 but the district’s fiscal year runs from September to August 31,” D’Agostino said. “As the court is aware, the levy and assessment was not set until October 21, 2013 but for all intents and purposes, the district is keeping with the September 1 fiscal year.”

He explained the board is aware this it is advisory to the court and at the same time, representative to the will of the voters providing them with a voice during the pendency of the receivership.
