Westerly Jewelry celebrating 75 years in town |

WESTERLY - The roots of Westerly Jewelry reach back across the Atlantic Ocean into pre-World War II Poland. Aaron Hirschkovits was a jeweler and watchmaker in Poland who emigrated to the United States to avoid persecution. Two of his sons also emigrated and they first settled in Boston. But Sam Hirsch (the name was shortened by immigration officials) needed to move. |

WESTERLY – On Oct. 1, 2009 at the Westerly Armory there was an event that brought service providers together with people in need; taking small steps to make a huge difference in people’s lives. This unique event offered a one-stop opportunity for those who are homeless to connect with much needed services. Hence the event’s tagline: “connect with service providers in one day, in one location”. |

Bills may reverse Carcieri decision |

CHARLESTOWN – Two new bills in the United States Congress aim to reverse the outcome of the Carcieri v. Salazar case. The decision, which was made in Carcieri’s favor earlier this year, essentially prohibits the Narragansett Indian Tribe from taking its 32-acre parcel into trust. |
