BOSTON — A group of Coventry Police officers recently found themselves at court in Boston. While it might not be unusual for members of the police department to be at court, this time it was at the TD Banknorth Garden and the Coventry Police Department Honor Guard was sharing the court with the Boston Celtics. Six of the senior members of the group were invited to usher in the Boston Celtics at the team’s Nov. 12 game against the Atlanta Hawks at the TD Banknorth Garden, according to the department. |

COVENTRY — It’s been some time since Don Fascio and Paul Buddock of Coventry’s Department of Public Works utilized their snow plow operating skills. When they competed in the Rhode Island Snow Plow Rally last month, however, they didn’t appear rusty at all. In fact, Fascio and Buddock placed in the top three in two of the five events. They earned a first place trophy in the parallel parking with a compressor attached event and a third place in the snow plow slalom event. All five of the events, according to the contestants, were quite challenging and the competition was stiff. |

A Coventry man was among more than a dozen other individuals to be arrested following a year and a half long investigation by the Rhode Island and Massachusetts State Police. Carmine Appolonia, 56, of 18 Read Ave., Coventry, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, delivery of a controlled substance, and conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance. “We alleged [Carmine Appolonia] made a delivery of vicodin during that period of our investigation,” said Lieutenant Colonel Steven G. O'Donnell, deputy superintendent and chief of field operations. |

As Thanksgiving approaches, local food pantries in Coventry, West Warwick, and West Greenwich are doing their best to make sure that everyone has a good meal for the holiday. Coventry Food Bank They need more turkeys, says Human Services Director Pat Shurtleff. The bank assembles roughly 125 baskets each Thanksgiving, she says, and turkeys are in high demand. In addition to turkeys, they are looking for potatoes, vegetables, rolls, cranberry sauce — anything for a Thanksgiving meal. |

COVENTRY — The Coventry Board of Canvassers certified the results of the Coventry Town Council elections on Friday, according to Lori Anderson. None of the races was contested and there were no requests for recounts, she said. The election of three new members to the Coventry Town Council creates a new majority and a new agenda, according to the incoming Republicans. When they join the re-elected Councilmen Kenneth Cloutier (R-Dist. 5) and Frank Hyde (D-District 3), say Laura Flanagan (R-Dist. 2), Raymond Spear (R-Dist. 1) and Glenford Shibley (R-Dist. 4), their first order of business will be to locate a full-time town manager. |
