Not soon after you carve into that Thanksgiving Day turkey that it's that time of year again. "Jingle Bells" is playing on the radio, Santa Claus is popping up in the malls and Christmas bazaars are taking over December weekends. All across South County, this year's first December weekend on Dec. 4 is filled to the chimney with holiday bazaars as several churches and schools prepare to sell crafts and homemade goods and hold silent auctions.
The Peace Dale Congregational Church at 261 Columbia St. in Peace Dale is a seasoned veteran of Christmas bazaars, holding one annually for the past 25 years.
"It's a lot of fun because people get together and work on something. We work all week from Monday to Thursday making wreaths," Martha Frost, co-chairman of the bazaar said. "The whole church gets involved. We have a reputation. People have been coming for years."
