NARRAGANSETT â€“ After 31 years of serving Narragansett residents some of the areas highest quality French-style cuisine, Basilâ€™s Restaurant of Narragansett will be closing its doors for the final time at the end of this summer.
â€śIt was a nice run,â€ť said owner and executive chef Vasilios Kourakis who opened the restaurant with wife Kathy on Motherâ€™s Day in 1984.
Kourakis moved to New York City at the age of 17 from Crete, Greece to pursue a career as a chef. After working through internships at the renowned Rainbow Room and receiving culinary training at various private clubs, he began to partake in apprenticeships under European chefs who helped him to hone his skills in the fine art of French and continental cuisine.
