Background check bill gaining support

The background check bill proposed by District 30 Rep. Anthony Giarrusso was approved by the House Committee on Health, Education and Welfare last week.

A bill proposed by a local legislator urging national background checks for potential school bus company employees recently made progress through the State House.

Last Wednesday, the House Committee on Health, Education and Welfare (HCHEW) approved the legislature, House Bill H7219 Substitute A – proposed by District 30 Representative Anthony Giarrusso (R-East Greenwich, West Greenwich) – that requires individuals who are seeking employment with a private school or within a public school system in Rhode Island to be subjected to both a national and state criminal background checks.
