COVENTRY — Out with the old, in with the new and improved.
Now that the $1.15 million bid contract authorizing Ahlborg Construction Corporation for the renovation of the high school sports complex has been unanimously approved for $1,152,243 by the town council Monday night, the building committee is ready for the next step.
Bill Finnegan, chairman of the school building committee, was very pleased when he left the council chambers.
“We’re looking forward to moving forward and continuing to be under budget,” he said. “Construction will start immediately with the infrastructure being completed by September 2014 while the field won’t be ready for use until the following year.”
According to committee Vice Chairman Tom Hetherman, plans were reviewed and went out to bid on February 1.
“We haven’t had a home track meet in years,” Heatherman said.
Hetherman confirmed the committee received bids back on March 1.
“Construction will start, then hopefully we can have our first track meet by April of 2015 and our first game of football by the fall of 2015.”
