KINGSTON – Lost in the shuffle of the firing of Jim Baron and courting and eventual hiring of Dan Hurley was how returning members of the University of Rhode Island men’s basketball team would react.
Wednesday, they showed how.
Every member eligible to return next season was in attendance Wednesday, as they walked into Keaney Gymnasium as a team and walked out hopeful of things to come.

KINGSTON — When it comes to University of Rhode Island men’s basketball, you would be hard pressed to find two fans with a better knowledge of the program than Warren Lutzel and Dick Moore.
The two sat together to watch the introduction of new coach Dan Hurley Wednesday at Keaney Gymnasium, a place where they had watched the Rams play since the facility opened in December of 1953.
“I would say 40 years, 40 or 50 years, something like that,” said Lutzel of how long they had been coming to games for.

KINGSTON - Standing behind a podium with a University of Rhode Island jersey with his last name emblazoned on the back, Dan Hurley opened his introductory press conference with a couple jokes and ended talking about winning.
And winning is something he is not taking lightly.

Report: Hurley will be URI's next coach

March 20, 2012

An hour after the Narragansett Times went to press Tuesday morning, a report from silive.com - based out of Staten Island - confirmed that Wagner men's basketball coach Danny Hurley was leaving the school to take the same job at the University of Rhode Island.
According to the report, Hurley told reporter Cormac Gordon "I didn't anticipate that I'd have to be making a decision like this for several years. It was a very difficult thing to do and I talked to a lot of people. There was a lot of back and forth."

State could have problem with potential hiring

March 20, 2012

There are reports circulating that Wagner's Danny Hurley will have a decision today as to if he will accept the offer to become the next coach of the University of Rhode Island men's basketball team, one thing is certain - it will be difficult for him to bring a key assistant coach along.
Bobby Hurley is Danny's older brother and currently an assistant at Wagner. A report from silive.com - a Staten Island-based website - said should Danny Hurley come to URI, the school would try to keep Bobby on as head coach.

Hurley visited URI

March 19, 2012

It was a busy weekend for rumors in Kingston over the weekend about Wagner's Danny Hurley taking the job as head coach for the URI men's basketball team.
GoLocalProv.com reported Hurley had been hired to replace the departed Jim Baron, a report URI AD Thorr Bjorn denied when reached by the Providence Journal Friday night.
Bjorn didn't deny - and reading the report, didn't confirm either - Hurley had visited the campus, but now there is no doubt Hurley was in Kingston Saturday morning.
