WEB EXCLUSIVE: North KIngstown local releases her third novel

“To Serve a King” (Kensington Publishing), the third novel by Rhode Island and North Kingstown native Donna Russo Morin, was released on Feb. 1. Historical novelist Russo Morin's first book, “The Courtier's Secret” (Kensington, Feb. 2009) was a finalist in this past year's prestigious National Readers' Choice Award and took first place in the Best First Book category of the RWI-RWA contest. Her second novel, “The Secret of the Glass” (Kensington, March 2010), was chosen as an Outstanding Pick for 2010 by Book Illuminations.

Is North Kingstown ready for a medical marijuana facility? Well, that depends on whom you ask.

NORTH KINGSTOWN – An investigation that began back in September ended last week with Rhode Island State Police and the United States Drug Department of Enforcement Administration (DEA) - Rhode Island Task Force officials, arresting three out of state males, seizing 66 kilograms of cocaine and $1,245,100 in cash during a planned raid at a storage facility on 376 Dry Bridge Road, Unit A-3, North Kingstown. State Police are calling the raid one of the biggest in state history, both in the amount of cash and the amount of drugs seized.

The North Kingstown Home Depot will be holding their second annual Free Kid’s Activities Camp during February school vacation, Feb. 21 to 25, beginning at 10 a.m.
There’ll be story time daily followed by hands-on activities. Pre-registration is required and space is limited. Parents must be present with children at all time and is offered to children ages five and up.
The following is the week’s schedule:
Feb. 21- Kid’s Workshop. Build a project using tools with the Home Depot team.
Feb. 22- Painting Pots. Your child can design a clay pot for you to enjoy for years.

This week, Westerly Community Credit Union distributed checks from the 27th Annual WCCU Holiday Basketball Tournament to the four participating high schools: Chariho, Exeter-West Greenwich, Stonington and Westerly.
The tournament was held on Dec 27, 28, 29 and 30, and raised money for four participating schools’ sports boosters.
‘WCCU has always been a very community-oriented institution,’ stated Steve White, WCCU President & CEO. ‘We couldn’t be happier being the sole sponsor of this event for the past 27 years and raising money to help our communities’ young adults.’

But South Kingstown Rep. Donald Lally, a deputy whip on Speaker Gordon Fox’s leadership team, has an idea; he wants to fine-tune Halloween. Halloween has been around in one form or another since the mid-1500s, it is celebrated in many parts of the world, but Lally suddenly wants the General Assembly to fix it.

Police make major drug bust in NK

After a long investigation stemming back to September of 2010, Rhode Island State police on Wednesday announced a major drug bust after obtaining search warrants at 376 Dry Bridge Road, Unit#A-3, in North Kingstown.
Thirty one kilograms of cocaine were seized in a hidden compartment in the Chrysler Pacifica located on the premises and $1,245,100 was seized from a hidden compartment in a tractor trailer truck.
