Tell Me Your Story: Eeyore's story inspires creation of donkey rescue group

September 3, 2012

Today is the beginning of a story I’ll be updating for what I hope is a very long time. It’s the story of a little old donkey; blind, horribly malnourished and with a mouth that appears not to have had dental attention in a long time.
Not to mention love. When was that ever part of his life?
He can’t tell us anything about his past but I can talk about his present and his future. He was abandoned on Rt. 165 in western Exeter in early August, left terrified to fend for himself.

NORTH KINGSTOWN - Many 25 year-olds have either graduated college, or have been working in the “real world” for a few years but for one North Kingstown resident, life is about a little bit more than that.
For Bryan Groves, who graduated from North Kingstown High School in 2006 and the University of Rhode Island in 2010 and soon after was commissioned as a lieutenant in the Army through the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC), life revolves around serving your country.

NORTH KINGSTOWN–Coming on the heels of a cancelled school day due to union picket lines on Tuesday morning, the regularly scheduled session of the North Kingstown School Committee meeting proved to be a perfect venue for a union rally that packed the house at the high school.
“Shame on you! Shame on you!” a rowdy and riled up crowd of ESP workers jeered following a decision by committee Chair Kimberly Page to adjourn the meeting prior to a scheduled public comment session.

CURMUDGEON'S CORNER: Sideshows are what keep school committee 'dysfunctional' (OPINION)

August 29, 2012

I would like to comment on several things that occurred at the North Kingstown School Committee meeting last week.
First is the incessant and repetitious questioning by committee members Bill Mudge and Melvoid Benson about the “Citizen’s Comments” section of the agenda. At practically every school meeting I attend, Mr. Mudge and Mrs. Benson challenge Chairperson Kim Page and legal counsel Mary Ann Carroll about the law and policy governing citizen comments.

KINGSTON - Rhode Island Second District Rep. Jim Langevin has been very vocal on all topics concerning the nation’s cybersecurity and where it is headed. NORTH KINGSTOWN – Doreen Costa is the local version of the modern woman’s Energizer Bunny, always on the move.
But the Republican state representative who serves North Kingstown and Exeter in the state General Assembly was stopped in her tracks by acute pain on Aug. 2. Today she’s still recovering – and very grateful – after a hasty trip to the hospital resulted in emergency surgery and a cancer scare.
