Hodgson submits benefit anti-fraud bill

EAST GREENWICH — With statutory and regulatory criteria for receiving state benefits being tightened up, state Sen. Dawson T. Hodgson (R-Dist. 35, North Kingstown, East Greenwich) is targeting the fraud side of the equation in a bill he recently submitted to the General Assembly.

EAST GREENWICH — While the current state of the economy may be a drain on local food banks, local volunteers and a supermarket chain are attempting to keep a local bank replenished.

The East Greenwich Interfaith Food Bank, based at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, received a $4,280 donation from Stop & Shop's Frenchtown Road branch, which has been active in several local food bank initiatives.

French class 'rocks' EGHS last Wednesday

EAST GREENWICH — Seldom does a French lesson get students out of their seats and dancing.

But that's what happened last week in the East Greenwich High School Auditorium, with some help from Grand Derangement, a band from the Canadian maritime province of Nova Scotia, whose diverse music ties in with the history element of French language classes.

About 850 French language students from around the state, in two shifts, were bused to the school for the concert, an annual event sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French Rhode Island.
