Access plan for new McDonald's creates puzzle

EAST GREENWICH — What looked like a one-item special meeting agenda last Wednesday with a routine bit of housekeeping turned into one of the more contentious Planning Board meetings in recent months.

With board members split on whether to reconsider one condition of a plan approved in December, FKL New London LLC, developer of a planned McDonald's at 2500 New London Turnpike, will go back to the drawing board on an access plan for the restaurant to be built near Exit 7 of Route 95 in the extreme northwest corner of town near its border with Coventry and West Greenwich.

EGFD to meet about station relocation Sat.

EAST GREENWICH - The East Greenwich Fire District will hold a special meeting to discuss a possible relocation of Station 1 on Saturday at 10 a.m. at New England Institute of Technology, 1408 Division Road.

Chief Peter Henrikson will present a report he, Deputy Chief Russell McGillivray and district staff have prepared on the feasibility of moving the station from its current 98-year-old headquarters building at 284 Main St. to a new building, to be built on a state-owned lot at the corner of Post Road and Cedar Avenue.

Robots bowl over at N.E. Tech

WARWICK - There was more cooperation than battle, but 32 teams of Rhode Island high school students had it out in high-tech style Saturday morning under the auspices of New England Institute of Technology.

Before a cheering audience in the competition pits of NEIT's automotive campus, students maneuvered their creations through a combination of bowling and pickup in the sixth annual Rhode Island FIRST Tech Challenge Championship.

EAST GREENWICH — A weight training supplement company and a medical office complex on nearby South County Trail properties both received positive recommendations from the Planning Board last week on pending petitions before the Zoning Board of Review.
