South County Museum celebrates 80 years

NARRAGANSETT - The South County museum recently celebrated its 80th anniversary of preserving the history and heritage of rural and coastal life in Southern Rhode Island.

Founded in 1933, South County Museum (SCM) was not always at its present location within Canonchet Farm. The museum was originally housed in a barn in Wickford and then moved to its current location in 1985.

SK, Narragansett to receive HUD funding

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Public Housing Capital Fund Program recently awarded a total of $11.7 million in federal funding to 25 Rhode Island cities and towns.

According to U.S. Sen. Jack Reed, public housing agencies that will receive funding include Bristol, Burrillville, Central Falls, Coventry, Cranston, Cumberland, East Greenwich, East Providence, Jamestown, Johnston, Lincoln, Narragansett, Newport, North Providence, Pawtucket, Portsmouth, Providence, Smithfield, South Kingstown, Tiverton, Warren, Warwick, West Warwick, Westerly and Woonsocket.

Land Trust Days: a time for exploration

That’s the message the Rhode Island Land Trust Council is spreading through its Land Trust Days activities this year.

With more than 60 guided walks, events, and visits to scenic farms and green spaces, put on by Rhode Island’s 47 land trusts, there are ample opportunities to enjoy nature.

Rupert Friday, executive director of the Rhode Island Land Trust Council, said this year’s list of events is even better than last year’s.
