Knitting keeps others warm, knotting ties club together

December 15, 2010

For ten years the AOA club members have been giving of their time and their talents for members of the local community.
AOA stands for Active Older Adults, and that is certainly an understatement, in reference to this group. These active older adults which are comprised of women ranging in age from their late 50s to nearly 85 years old, get together once a week, on Friday mornings, for a knitting club. The members said that they do spend a good deal of time knitting during club meetings, but that is not all that they do. They also attend functions; hold community gatherings, fund raise, support local organizations, volunteer and get together simply for socialization.

Meet MOGA, area band poised for stardom, at least with their fans: Trolls and Druids

December 14, 2010

The all met as fellow students at North Kingstown High School.
Cool.
Post-graduation, they started out their musical life in various band incarnations, under the names: UFOS, Tapir and Wart-Hog Duo.
So, they could only go up….
Meet MOGA – an arbitrary word for a distinctly unusual folk and psychedelic rock band that websites like Go Local Prov, among others, have hailed as a group that “elegantly combines folk and electronic elements, producing a signature sound that is both genuine and inspired. If you ever wanted to hear a folk record produced by Brian Eno, MOGA may satisfy that desire.”

Boston Museum of Science visits Fr. John V. Doyle School

December 9, 2010

The students at Father John V. Doyle School in Coventry got to see the “biggest living thing on the planet” last week.
The object was brought into their school for observation during the Boston Museum of Science Life Cycle’s Traveling program. The object wasn’t however, unmanageable, and that was because it was just a baby…a baby Giant Sequoia. Giant Sequoias, the biggest trees on the planet, only grow in California, but the program had a sapling which they had grown from a seed shipped here from California.

Councilwoman Laura Flanagan was absent.
In addition to Tobin, the town manager recommended as a part of the resolution that Edwards, Angell, Palmer and Dodge stay on as assistant solicitors for “designated tasks.” This was approved as part of the same resolution.

Did you know that arthritis doesn’t affect only seniors and older adults?

Rheumatois arthritis can actually be just as, if not more crippling for children than it is for adults and seniors.

More candidates more questions. Today we will continue our coverage of the Candidates running for state offices.
There are six candidates running for representative seats in three different districts. District 27, 29 and 40. We asked each of them the same six questions:

1. What do you see as the biggest challenge currently facing the state/town/schools?

2. How would you address this challenge?

3. If you could change one thing immediately after being elected, what would it be?

4. What skills do you feel you would bring to the position you are seeking?
