Landscape outfit with roots in Coventry earns spot on publication's Top 5,000 list

EAST GREENWICH — Having started as a small company in Coventry, Proscape Landscaping is climbing the ladder, having made the Inc. Magazine’s Top 5,000 list.

John Pontarelli, President and founder of Proscape, explained that landscaping has been in his family for many years.

He said he started in the landscaping business in 1988 and opened Proscape in Coventry in 1995.

The company has now been relocated to East Greenwich but provides services to cities and towns throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

West Greenwich tabs next police chief

WEST WARWICK — Major Richard Ramsay of the West Warwick Police Department has accepted a job offer as the new Police Chief of West Greenwich as he focuses on the advancement of his career.

Maj. Ramsay, who’s been with West Warwick for 23 years, began his career as an officer and worked his way up to the second highest position in the department.

“I love my job as a Major in charge of the patrol division, but being a Chief is a great opportunity,” he said. “When the application opened up I talked to my family and I thought it would be a good move professionally.”

Coventry HS grad presents to Congress

COVENTRY — A recent Coventry High School graduate was given the chance to take her hard work and research on D-Day and present it to Congress in Washington D.C. in May.

Amanda Hoskins, who graduated this month, said it all began when her Advanced Placement History teacher, Lisa Johansen asked her class who would be interested in going to France with her.

She explained that she wrote her teacher a short letter explaining why she wanted to travel to France; Johansen then selected her for the trip.

Longtime SRIN photographer Ray Clayton inducted into Rhode Island Press Association Hall of Fame

Southern Rhode Island Newspapers is proud to announce that longtime staff photographer Ray Clayton has been named one of three entrants into the Rhode Island Press Association’s Hall of Fame Class of 2012.
Clayton, who worked for SRIN for nearly 40 years as a fulltime photographer and freelanced for the Standard Times up until his death last December, will join East Bay Newspapers sports writer/photographer Manuel C. “Manny” Correira and retired Providence Journal business editor Joseph L. Goodrich as the latest inductees into the coveted hall.
