Langevin Recognized as National MS Society's Representative of the Year

WARWICK-The National Multiple Sclerosis Society honored Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI) as its 2010 Representative of the Year at the organization's annual Public Policy Conference. The award distinguishes a Member of Congress who has demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication to issues most significantly impacting the lives of people with Multiple Sclerosis, or MS. It represents one of the highest honors the Society awards to public officials.

Richmond council nixes late payment notices

RICHMOND – Delinquent property taxpayers won't be seeing additional late payment notices this year as the Town Council voted recently to stop sending out the quarterly reminders. Instead, taxpayers will receive what they have in the past, which is their tax bill followed by a late payment reminder in December.

PROVIDENCE - Sometimes, it takes the young to teach the old new tricks.
When Rep. Brian Patrick Kennedy (D-Dist. 38, Hopkinton, Westerly) and several of his legislative colleagues met a few weeks ago to talk with students from the Westerly Middle School about a project they had undertaken - convincing municipal officials to install a collection drum at the town transfer station to collect used, liquid cooking oil - they saw an idea that could be expanded statewide.

Rep. Donna Walsh introduces "Blue Alert" legislation

PROVIDENCE – Former Charlestown police officer Brian Jackson had moved to Dallas, Texas where he joined the police force. On the night of Nov. 13, 2005, he responded to a domestic disturbance call.

He was shot by a suspect and died an hour later. A "Blue Alert" was issued by the Dallas Police force with witness details and the suspect was arrested within a few hours.

Ashaway's Principal Morrone receives state award

ASHAWAY – As he and his students will tell you, Ashaway Elementary School Principal Steven Morrone typically isn't speechless in the morning.

But, to be fair, the morning of Monday, Feb. 14 wasn't typical in the least.

As he walked into the cafeteria of the elementary school, Morrone was flanked by members of the Chariho Regional School Committee, district administrators and teachers, his family, and the entire student body.

The second-year principal, who could see that everyone was excited and clapping, began clapping, too, as he was obviously unaware of what was going on.
