Woodville Road Bridge reconstruction complete

HOPKINTON–Crossing the Wood River at the Hopkinton/Richmond town line just became a whole lot easier. The Woodville Road Bridge has been reopened, Rep. Brian Patrick Kennedy (Dist. 38 – Hopkinton) announced in conjunction with the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) last week.

State budget approved: status quo for Chariho

The new state budget for the fiscal year 2012 is officially in place. The bill was signed by Gov. Lincoln Chafee on Thursday, June 30, and passed into law just one day before the beginning of the fiscal year (July 1, 2011 - June 30, 2012).

Police officers take on baseball challenge

HOPE VALLEY - Officers from the Richmond Police Department challenged several legendary sports figures on Sunday at Dow Field in Hope Valley.
The Bill Lee & Celebrities All-Star Softball team came to town to share the diamond that day, bringing with it such well-known stars as David Bavaro, Steve King, Patrick Pass and Jim Bowman of the Patriots; Jim Corsi and Dennis “Oil Can” Boyd of the Boston Red Sox; Bobby Miller of the Boston Bruins; and Jim Rourke of the Cincinnati Bengals.

Frosty Drew shines a light on dark skies

CHARLESTOWN — Along with the scenic views of the Atlantic Ocean, alluring beaches, and thick forests, one of the best and most breathtaking pieces of Charlestown resides right above our heads.
The town’s gorgeous dark skies have become more than a reason to stop by the Frosty Drew Nature Center & Observatory. According to Observatory Director Francine Jackson, the skies have actually drawn people to visit and even reside in Charlestown.

Reporter says farewell

Well, after three-plus years here at The Chariho Times, it’s time that I, Andrew Martin, move on to greener — or southern, rather — pastures.
As of June 25, I will officially be a resident of Raleigh, N.C., while simultaneously handing in my passport from the state of Rhode Island. Yeah, I know, you don’t need a passport to live here, but it certainly feels that way.

To say we all live on our own planet in R.I. would be an understatement. A massive understatement.

Town undertakes new wind generation program

CHARLESTOWN – The Town Council held a public workshop on Thursday, June 23 at Ninigret Park to provide residents with information about the town’s Wind Generation Ordinance. Town Council President Thomas Gentz was on hand to give an update on the project and introduce two other speakers.

While not too many people showed up because of the rainy weather, Gentz said that those who did come acquired some new knowledge about the ordinance.

“We had about 12 citizens there,” he said, “and they asked a lot of good questions and they learned a lot.”

Art & antique sale coming to Frosty Drew

CHARLESTOWN -- On Saturday, July 16, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., those who love the art and antiques will find an exciting new cultural event and sale happening in Ninigret Park. The antique and art sale is called the Sea Star Marketplace and is being put on by the Frosty Drew Nature Center & Observatory, a local nonprofit educational organization, as a fund-raiser.

Middle school teachers give the 'Final Wave'

WOOD RIVER JCT. – Monday, June 20 was not only the last day of spring, it was the last day of school for the students of Chariho Middle School.
As the buses drove off the school grounds filled with students for the last time until September, a large group of teachers and staff gave them a final farewell.
