Next step in gun club: hiring sound engineer

Hunting may be solution to deer overpopulation

CHARLESTOWN - The Rhode Island National Wildlife Refuge Complex (RINWRC), a division of the National Fish and Wildlife Service, is in the process of constructing a White-tailed Deer Management Plan for the Block Island and Ninigret National Wildlife Refuges. A public workshop was held at the Kettle Pond Visitors Center on Thursday, Nov. 10, to collect public input on the plan and to answer questions.

Tourism Council sets up shop in Connecticut

In an effort to distribute South County-related tourism materials, the South County Tourism Council (SCTC) has acquired space at the Pilot Travel Center at Exit 93 off Route 95 in Connecticut. The move was a direct result of the closing of the Rhode Island Welcome Center.

ALA continues fighting for better air quality (Letter)

To the Editor,

Congress has become increasingly fixated on dismantling clean air protections and impeding the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) ability to improve public health. Last month, House Leaders passed the TRAIN Act, the most dangerous assault on the clean air protections ever. And now in the Senate, we have Senator Rand Paul’s (R-KY) attempt to utilize the Congressional Review Act (CRA) to thwart the implementation of the life-saving Cross State Air Pollution Rule. The rule is expected to protect the public from deadly toxins emitted by industrial plants in other states, of which citizens of Sen. Paul’s own state of Kentucky would benefit from greatly.

Experiencing RI history in Hopkinton

HOPKINTON - Hope Valley Elementary Fourth Grade Social Studies Teacher Denise Moretti-Foggo believes that when students gain first-hand experience of what they are being taught, by seeing and touching, it helps them commit the knowledge to memory.

She had been teaching her students about the history of Rhode Island, and more specifically the history of Hopkinton, in recent weeks, in preparation for Historical Hopkinton: A Living History Day Field Trip.

It seems the term “Tall Ship” must have come from John Masefield’s poem, Sea Fever. My sea-faring Dad quoted that poem to me a hundred times, but he never sailed in a Tall Ship. Still, as a seafarer, he too felt the romance that whistled with the wind in the rigging.
