Hopkinton’s trails get a proper mapping

HOPKINTON— On Tuesday evening, the Hopkinton Conservation Commission (HCC) discussed its mapping project of area trails that will soon be available on the town web site.
The trails are part of Hopkinton’s Land Trust, a municipal land trust whose mission is to “protect the Town of Hopkinton’s rural character and natural heritage,” according to www.hltri.org.

Charlestown council examines affordable housing options

CHARLESTOWN — On Monday evening, Evelyn Smith, chair of the Charlestown Affordable Housing Commission, and Geoffrey Marchant, executive director of the Washington County Community Development Corporation (WCCDC), updated the Charlestown Town Council regarding ChurchWoods and Shannock Cottages, which are proposed elderly and low-income housing construction projects.

Council seeks to revisit Chariho Act

RICHMOND – The Richmond Town Council continues to vie for the reopening of the Chariho Act for discussion and possible amendment, and plans to pursue potential legal avenues to do so. The council discussed the recent report of Charlestown’s Chariho Funding ad hoc Subcommittee at the council meeting Tuesday, which alleges that Richmond requested a single taxing district be formed for Chariho.

Town seeks to purchase Whalerock property

Case against Terri Serra comes to an end

July 5, 2013

WAKEFIELD – The case against former Chariho School Committee member, Terri Serra, drew to a close Tuesday in Washington County Superior Court.
Serra, 51, amended her plea from not guilty to a Richmond Police charge of procuring alcohol for a minor stemming from an October 2011 incident, and entered a plea of no contest.

Day care facility approved for Hope Valley

Black bear makes a cameo in Hopkinton

July 5, 2013

HOPKINTON - A black bear that has been roaming through many communities in Rhode Island was spotted in Hopkinton Tuesday morning.
The Department of Environmental Management received a call at 5:37 a.m. reporting that the bear was spotted near Reynolds Court, according to Gail Mastrati, a spokesperson for DEM.

Richmond Elementary School gets an A plus

RICHMOND — On Tuesday, Stop & Shop awarded Richmond Elementary School with a check for more than $17,000 earned through the store’s A+ School Rewards program.
Richmond was Rhode Island’s top-earning school mainly because of visionary PTO parent, Linda Thompson-Brennan, who made it her mission to register area residents for the free program as they entered and exited the store.

CHARLESTOWN - The Charlestown Zoning Board held a third public hearing last Wednesday night, June 19, and scheduled two more, as the zoning board determines whether to allow Whalerock Renewable Energy LLC to erect two wind turbines in the town.
