Scholarship awarded to CHS grad

COVENTRY— Giving back to his community is top priority for 2014 Coventry High School graduate, Ryan Curtis, who was recently rewarded for his hard work by receiving a $1,500 scholarship from the Rhode Island Association of Former Legislators Scholarship Fund at the Rhode Island Foundation. Former State Senator Aram Garabedian presented Curtis with the award for his dedication and contributions to community service.

Canvassing board outlines voting deadlines, procedures

SOUTH KINGSTOWN – With primary elections for local government positions just around the corner, the town canvassing board is working to spread the word about voting deadlines and procedures, including the voter identification protocol that will be fully phased in during this election.
Hours after a special trip to a local nursing home to explain voter ID procedures, the canvassing board held a meeting during which the ballot questions, mail ballot applications, and list of poll workers were approved.

80-year summer camp tradition with BSFD

NARRAGANSETT – The Bonnet Shores Fire District Summer Day Camp at the Bonnet Community Center is celebrating its 80th year. Run by Fire District Manager Erin Rooney with daughter and Camp Director Katie Rooney, numerous generations of children within the district from ages four to 12 have been enjoying this summer tradition for years.

Council approves gravel mining for Eminel Holdings

HOPKINTON — At Monday night’s meeting, the town council approved the initial earth removal registration of Eminel Holdings, L.L.C., located in Ashaway. The town’s Earth Removal Ordinance, enacted in February 2012, requires sand and gravel operations to demonstrate usage of best practices annually in order to remain in compliance.
