Chariho boys ousted from playoffs; NK, SK advance to semifinals

There will be a new state champ this season.
The Chariho boys soccer team, the 2009 title winner, was ousted from the playoffs Wednesday, losing to No. 1-seeded Barrington 5-2 Wednesday night.
Local teams are still involved in the fight for the state title, as No. 6-seeded North Kingstown upset No. 3 seed Hendricken in overtime, 1-0, on the back of 15 saves from keeper Ben Jones.
NK's rival South Kingstown also advanced, beating No. 5 seed La Salle 1-0. Zach Campo scored the lone goal for the No. 5 seed Rebels.

SK girls schedule to play in D-II field hockey semifinal

The South Kingstown girls field hockey beat Woonsocket 2-0 Tuesday and are scheduled to play this evening against Tiverton at Cranston Stadium at 6 p.m., but weather forecasts do not look good.

Christ the King Church to hold a public awareness vigil

KINGSTON – Victims of domestic violence will be remembered tonight at Christ the King Church at 180 Old North Road, Kingston at 7 p.m. as the church holds a silent witness vigil to raise public awareness of domestic violence.
“It's not a vigil. It's not a silent vigil at all. It's more of a presentation. It is called silent because the witnesses are silent obviously,” Nancy Beede, coordinator of the silent vigil at the church said.

Campaign workers exercise their right to vote

SOUTH KINGSTOWN – Although Election Day can be seen as a relaxing day off for some people, for others it is a day to work hard for what you believe in either by working at the polls or campaigning for a favorite candidate.
Campaign workers manned their polling places to support their candidates and to exercise their right to vote.
“It's what you believe in. We have the right to [vote]. A lot of people have fought and died for that right to vote so why wouldn't you?” Ken Plymesser said, who campaigned outside South Kingstown High School for his favorite candidates.

Town Council meeting looks at plans for Canonchet

NARRAGANSETT--On Oct. 18 the town council scheduled a work session for Oct. 25 to discuss the plans for Canonchet Farm. The goal of Terrence Fleming's presentation before the council, according to Michael DeLuca of Narragansett's Planning Department was to "try and give more background and body to the overall recommendation of the planning board to the council." The town council will have the final say as to what becomes of the property.
In past meetings, a majority of members have favored less development to the leafy property.

Hendricken maintains the top spot in the poll with last week's win over Portsmouth. Locally, Chariho remains put at No. 10 while Exeter-West Greenwich moves up to No. 13.

Chariho advances to D-I boys soccer playoffs

The Chariho boys soccer team needed penalty kicks to leave Cumberland with a win Monday night, advancing from the preliminary round and into the Division I playoffs, where the Chargers will play at Barrington Wednesday night.

Skippers fall in D-I field hockey quarters

The North Kingstown girls field hockey saw its solid season come to an end Monday with a 2-0 loss to Moses Brown in the Division I field hockey quarterfinals.
