SOUTH KINGSTOWN - Ella Whaley became the new South Kingstown town council president Monday night amidst tension as former president Kathleen Fogarty and former vice president Mary Eddy abstained their votes during the swearing-in ceremony.
While Eddy nominated Fogarty to be president for a second term, Carol Hagan McEntee nominated Whaley with councilman Jim O'Neill's support. After Whaley's nomination, Fogarty and Eddy abstained from voting for the president.
Hagan McEntee also became the new town council vice president. Whaley nominated first Fogarty and then Eddy for the vice president position, but both declined.
RICHMOND – The only incumbents who ran for re-election on the Town Council retained their seats as well as their rankings.
