NORTH KINGSTOWN â An investigation that began back in September ended last week with Rhode Island State Police and the United States Drug Department of Enforcement Administration (DEA) - Rhode Island Task Force officials, arresting three out of state males, seizing 66 kilograms of cocaine and $1,245,100 in cash during a planned raid at a storage facility on 376 Dry Bridge Road, Unit A-3, North Kingstown. State Police are calling the raid one of the biggest in state history, both in the amount of cash and the amount of drugs seized.
PROVIDENCE â A little dose of humility will hurt on first application, but the benefits of it will pay off in the long run.
Back on Jan. 17 in the third dual meet â and oddly enough, the final dual meet of the season â the West Warwick boys indoor track team, even though it swept both Smithfield and Cranston East, were a bit humbled because its individual performances.
Since that proverbial wake-up call, the coaching staff in the ensuing practices told the Wizards that they were better than that and the team hasnât peaked yet.
NORTH KINGSTOWN â Defense was the biggest reason the Feinstein Middle School girls basketball team went on the road and upset two Southern Division opponents in the RIPCOA playoffs.
The Falcons, in victories over Narragansett and Westerly, allowed just 34.5 points a game to reach the quarterfinals Tuesday afternoon against Southern Division co-champion Davisville of North Kingstown.
The Westerly Area Youth Lacrosse league is offering a FREE event for area parents and students, grades 1 through 8 today from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Westerly Middle School.
Join WAYL tonight to hear Dave Cornell and Heather McClelland, head mens' and womens' coaches from Conn College, give interested players the "scoop" on the sport. Vendors will also be available to display and sell equipment. WAYL has received a grant from US Lacrosse for helmets and eye wear for 20 boys. The equipment will be loaned for the season on a first-come, first-served basis.
With what it seems to be a snow storm every Tuesday and Wednesday this winter, the town is plowing through its snow removal budget as it also tries to clear storm drains.
Our local students may not have been crowned victors, but they did walk away with medals from the 10th annual LEGO League Rhode Island Championship Event.
Students from both Coventry and West Warwick Schools participated in the event, which was hosted by Roger Williams University earlier this month.
The East Greenwich Board of Fire Commissioners and local firefighters have agreed on a new three-year contract with an 18-month pay freeze and a 20 percent co-pay.
East Greenwich Firefighters Association Local 3328, affiliated with the International Association of Firefighters, ratified the new pact by majority vote three weeks ago, said Lt. Bill Perry, union president.
The commissioners then approved the contract at their meeting last Thursday.

The North Kingstown Home Depot will be holding their second annual Free Kidâs Activities Camp during February school vacation, Feb. 21 to 25, beginning at 10 a.m.
Thereâll be story time daily followed by hands-on activities. Pre-registration is required and space is limited. Parents must be present with children at all time and is offered to children ages five and up.
The following is the weekâs schedule:
Feb. 21- Kidâs Workshop. Build a project using tools with the Home Depot team.
Feb. 22- Painting Pots. Your child can design a clay pot for you to enjoy for years.

The director of the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) was at Monday nightâs town council meeting to discuss the replacement of the bridge on Laurel Avenueârenamed last year the Nathanael Greene Memorial Bridge.
Michael Lewis, RIDOTâs director, was back at a Coventry town council meeting for the second time in less than a year.
