From the moment he graduated from North Kingstown High School, Mulligan wanted to be a police officer on the North Kingstown Police Department, to serve his community the same way many of his family members and friends in law enforcement had.

NORTH KINGSTOWN â For the last of the ecumenical Lenten luncheon series, the Rev. John Unsworth, of St. Bernardâs Roman Catholic Church, introduced something new: humor.
A heavy rain had not kept people away â as in previous weeks, 100 attended â and, after the simple meal of bread and soup was over, he stepped to the front and announced: âIâve had disturbing news. Iâm dessert.â
Reminding the assembly that each of the six participating pastors had agreed to portray a key character from Holy Week, he said he chose John, âthe beloved disciple. Iâm no fool. That is who I am today.â
PROVIDENCE -- Each year four outstanding community conservation projects are recognized statewide as Sen. John Chafee Conservation Leadership Projects. These projects are undertaken and completed by local leaders and provide significant benefits to the community and to the state. This year 25 applications were received, only four of them will receive Sen. John Chafee recognition honors.
NARRAGANSETTâ Officers executed a search warrant at 144 South Pier Road Wednesday morning in relation to an arrest warrant for Tracy Anderson, 44, for the abuse and exploitation of an elderly person with severe handicaps. NPD also obtained various documents and a combination safe during their search.

NORTH KINGSTOWN â Peter Leviten is a busy man: four days a week he commutes from Saunderstown to his job in Massachusetts as an advertising copywriter for the Bose corporation, and he divides his time between cities.
âFor two days, itâs 72 miles each way; for another two days, itâs 85 miles each way,â he explains.
Now, adding to his travels â but in a pleasant way â he has taken up long-distance cycling. On May 1, he will participate in Cycle the Seacoast, in Portsmouth, N.H., joining others in biking 100 miles to benefit the American Lung Association.
WOOD RIVER JCT. -- The Chariho Community Innovative Projects Fund (CCIP), administered by the Rhode Island Foundation, has announced grants of $9,050 for the 2010-11 academic year.
NARRAGANSETT - From the starting line in Hopkinton through the infamous Heartbreak Hill and to the finishing line at Copley Square, over 24,000 runners competed in the worldâs most famous race, the Boston Marathon. Amongst those leading the pack of runners on Monday were two local legends, Glen Guillemette of Narragansett and Claire Gadrow of Wakefield.
NARRAGANSETTâThe weather did indeed cooperate with the students from Roger Williams University on Sunday afternoon. Traveling in two school buses, their goal on this wind swept, yet sunny day was to clean up Narragansett Town Beach.
A group of 50 students gathered at the South Beach Pavilion in Narragansett with trash bags and gloves, ready to help clean the beach as Earth Day approaches on this Friday, April 22.

Volunteers from the Concerned Citizens of Davisville are stepping up again in honor of Earth Day to keep their neighborhoods looking green and great.
The annual cleanup is scheduled to take place Saturday, April 30 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The rain date will be Sunday, May 1.
Volunteers of all ages, including eighth graders from the Davisille Middle School as well as the Cub Scouts from the Davisville Pack and other groups, will meet at the Davisville Middle School.
