Narragansett filmmaker's career comes full circle

NARRAGANSETT – After growing up in Narragansett and moving to New York City to take on the film industry, filmmaker Leif Husted Jensen has returned to his home town to take on the position of Director of Creative Broadcast at a Providence-based communications firm called (add)ventures. His work has been recognized by adcritic.com, Shoot Magazine, and the Cannes Advertising Film Festival.

NFD gets $384,000 for boat purchase, operator training

NARRAGANSETT – The Narragansett Fire Department has received $384,000 as part of the Department of Homeland Security’s Port Security Grant Program (PSGP). According to Fire Chief Scott Partington, $360,000 will be used to purchase a fire, rescue, and CBRNE (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosives) boat. The remaining $24,000 will be used to provide NASBLA (National Association of State Boating Law Administrators) training for operators within the department.
“We’re extremely excited about it and fortunate enough to have received the award,” said Partington. “We recognize it as a real necessity for the port area in this community.”

Rhode Island Land Trust Days underway

The fourth annual Rhode Island Land Trust Days kicked off Friday in South Kingstown. Events will continue statewide through Oct. 4.
Rupert Friday, executive director of the Rhode Island Land Trust Council, said the goal of Land Trust Days is to get people out and exploring protected areas in their communities.
“Part of why we’re doing Land Trust Days, is a couple years ago, we looked at what the Land Trust Council should be doing, and we found that people don’t know what land trusts are,” he said.

Narragansett Town Council begins strategy to prevent shoreline fatalities

August 7, 2015

NARRAGANSETT – The Narragansett Town Council continued a discussion on increasing awareness and signage in the area of Newton Ave near Hazard Rocks to prevent future deaths and injuries following the death of a 14-year-old girl last month. The council voted to direct town staff to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to reduce fatalities in the area while keeping the sites free and open.

Local singer songwriter to perform at Narragansett Music Series

July 31, 2015

NARRAGANSETT – Mary Pierce, a singer/songwriter of Celtic Folk music, will be performing in Narragansett on August 14 as part of the 2015 Summer Concert Series. Although Pierce was born and raised in Connecticut, she has been a resident of Narragansett in the past and has many family roots in the town. In an interview, she said she looks forward to coming back to share her music.
The artist currently has two albums “Miles Away” (2011) and “Dublin Bay” (2012) and is working on a third, untitled work which will likely be released by the end of the summer.
