Knight-Wizards power past Narragansett

January 2, 2013

WEST WARWICK – Narragansett boys hockey coach Chris Lussier had seven simple words for his team moments before the start of Wednesday’s game against undefeated West Warwick/Exeter-West Greenwich.
“Make them beat you,” he said, “five on five.”
The message went unheard.
West Warwick/Exeter-West Greenwich converted three power plays in the first two periods into three quick goals while the Mariners converted only one all game – and it came when things were well in hand - in the Knight-Wizards’ 4-1 win Wednesday at Magiera Memorial Ice Rink Wednesday night.

Rameika nets 1,000th point

December 25, 2012

WAKEFIELD — Prout senior Eric Rameika entered Friday night’s game against Lincoln just nine points away from 1,000 for his career and afterward admitted he was a little nervous coming in.
“[I felt] a lot of pressure,” Rameika said. “Everyone I talked to in school was like ‘nine more, nine more’ and, I mean, I tried to not think about it but it’s almost impossible. I was eager to get it done and over with.”
The way the first four minutes of the game played out it did little to alleviate his worries either.

Wasn't pretty, but didn't have to be for URI

December 22, 2012

KINGSTON – You do not play good basketball in every game during a season. It’s a statistical improbability. The best teams in the country, even those in the past that have gone undefeated, don’t do it. The game is a grind, almost as if by design, and while no one is happy with poor play, you deal with it because you have no other choice.

Wizards' defensive magic works vs. EG

December 22, 2012

WEST WARWICK – The program’s reputation has been built on its offensive prowess.
Thursday night the West Warwick girls basketball team showed it can play a little on the other side of the court as well.
After falling down early, coach Mike Francois unleashed a press on East Greenwich that threw its offense out of sorts as the Wizards’ defense frustrated the Avengers all night, which saved the game because the offense struggled to make anything from anywhere in a 45-38 win in their Division II opener.
