This week's RISM High School football poll

October 3, 2011

This week's Rhode Island Sports Media high school football poll has just been released and there aren't a lot of surprises at the top.
Undefeated La Salle was a unanimous choice for No. 1 and Cranston West received all 12 second-place votes. East Providence was third and Barrington and Hendricken tied for fourth.
Locally, West Warwick was the only team to crack the Top 10, finishing ninth with 143 points.
Chariho maintained its spot in the Top 20, moving up three spots to No. 14 and Exeter-West Greenwich also moved up a spot as the Knights are now ranked 17th.

October 1, 2011

WEST GREENWICH - The Exeter-West Greenwich football team scored on its first drive of the game, took advantage of a botched Hope punt and scored on its second possession of the game and the defense did the rest in a 26-0 win Saturday afternoon.

Skippers rocked by Cranston West

September 30, 2011

CRANSTON - For one full quarter, the North Kingstown football team played great.
The rest of the game didn't go as well.
After tying No. 2 Cranston West after one quarter of play and stopping the Falcons on the one, things fell apart for the Skippers in a 47-7 loss Friday night.
The highlight of the night for NK was a nine-play, 66-yard drive that started with a beautiful 19-yard reverse by receiver Alex Young and ended with a 15-yard touchdown pass by Jacob Morris to Alex Madioan. James Chamberlain's kick made it 7-7 with 2:51 left in the first quarter.

Bulldogs take bite out of Chargers

September 17, 2011

WESTERLY — The Chariho football team's league opener was a tough one under the lights at Westerly High School as the Bulldogs, in front of a raucous crowd, took down the Chargers, 16-0, on Friday.

Chariho was held to just 50 total rushing yards on the night against a very physical, very experienced Westerly front seven all game long.

The Chargers also had a pair of fumbles - one in each half - that halted potential scoring drives and turned the momentum over to the rival Bulldogs.

Wizards open with a bang

September 10, 2011

CRANSTON – All the West Warwick football team needed Friday night was four good quarters; the result on the scoreboard meant less than how the team played in their season-opening, non-league game against Division I’s Cranston East.
The Wizards got both.
After going 3-7 last season, West Warwick was out to prove it is a much improved team; Friday against Cranston East, the Wizards were clearly the better team as their defense took the Thunderbolts’ running game completely out of the books and the offense played smart football in a 33-14 win.
