Oakers earn road tie, still in search of Division II playoff bye

WESTERLY — If the Coventry boys soccer team is going to earn a bye into the Division II quarterfinals, the Oakers are going to have to work for it.
Coventry entered last week’s road game against Providence Country Day in prime position to earn a bye with three road games left to finish the season.

COVENTRY—For the first 20 seconds it appeared as if the Pilgrim football team would have a shot of hanging with Coventry Friday night.
Just 47 seconds later, the Oakers put the lowly Patriots in their place as Michael Nolan’s 44-yard touchdown run opened the flood gates on a 40-6 Coventry victory.

WEST WARWICK—To put it simply, the more physical team won the de-facto Division III-A girls soccer title game Friday afternoon.
Chariho, which was coming off a bad run of recent results following an undefeated start to the season, pushed and moved West Warwick around the field to secure the division title just three seasons after winning just one game.

ON CAMPUS: Georgio already contributing

Allisa Georgio scored the first goal of her collegiate soccer career – and it was a big one.
Framingham State freshman Georgio, from West Greenwich (Exeter-West Greenwich), scored the game-winner in the 98th minute of the game for a 2-1 overtime victory over Fitchburg State. The effort not only earned her and her teammates an important victory but also earned her Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week honors. She picked up an assist earlier in the season.
