Eckles enjoyed time as All-Star

Brandon Eckles was more than grateful to be selected as one of the 48 best players in the state and compete in the Rhode Island Coaches Association All-Star games last Wednesday at Rhode Island College.
At the same time though the whole thing felt just a little bit off and it’s easy to see why.

Girls lacrosse team has a new mentor

This past winter East Greenwich saw a significant amount of turnover amongst its head coaches.
Matt Records – who prior to the move was the head coach of the girls basketball team – took over the boys basketball team for Craig MacKenzie and Records’ former assistant coach – Tori Ahrens – took his place.

Prout ran out of time in game one

Top-seeded Lincoln slipped past the No. 2 Prout 3-2 Thursday night at Brown Universities George V. Meehan Auditorium.
With a late flurry the Crusaders (15-5-0, 14-4-0 Division II Central) closed a 3-1 deficit, coming up just short against the Lions (19-0-1, 17-0-1 Division II North) as time ran out in game one of the Division II Boy’s Ice Hockey Championship.

Prout goalkeeper Austin Gemma played about as well as anyone could expect a freshman to in game two of Saturday’s best-of-three Division II Boys Ice Hockey Championship series between the Crusaders and Lincoln.
Unfortunately for Gemma and his Crusader teammates hockey – like most sports – can be fickle.

Rhody made strides under new coach

Circumstance is an essential part of evaluation.
All one has to do to understand that is to look at the University of Rhode Island men’s basketball team this season.
The Rams finished 8-21 overall (3-13 Atlantic 10) and of their 21 losses 15 were by single digits, yet this was a pretty good year for URI.

It took the University of Rhode Island baseball team nine tries before it finally won a game this season.
If the Rams are able to do anything special this season it will be a result of those nine games.

Quinn, Donovan grew closer one 'step' at a time

Off the court Prout girls basketball coach Phil Quinn and his step-daughter Brittany Donovan have gotten along ever since they entered each other’s lives.
“We’re really close,” Donovan says. “He came into my life when I was in eighth grade and he was an amazing coach and it’s going to be really hard next year without them. Off the court he’s an amazing dad so I couldn’t have asked for anything better.”
