WOOD RIVER JCT.â€”Itâ€™s been 14 years since the Southern Division produced a state champion in golf but this spring the eight-team division is hoping to change that.

Samantha Smith will head into this weekendâ€™s NCAA Equestrian Championships with a couple of honors in her back pocket.
Smith, from Wakefield (South Kingstown High), is a key performer for the University of South Carolina womenâ€™s team. She was recently named Southeast Conference Freshman of the Year and was named to the All-SEC Equestrian Team. She was also voted as the conferenceâ€™s top rider in Equitation on the Flat by the four SEC head coaches.
