WAKEFIELD â Prout senior Eric Rameika entered Friday nightâs game against Lincoln just nine points away from 1,000 for his career and afterward admitted he was a little nervous coming in.
â[I felt] a lot of pressure,â Rameika said. âEveryone I talked to in school was like ânine more, nine moreâ and, I mean, I tried to not think about it but itâs almost impossible. I was eager to get it done and over with.â
The way the first four minutes of the game played out it did little to alleviate his worries either.

PROVIDENCE â If youâre nit-picking in a 19-point win, things are going well.
For the Coventry boys basketball team, they couldnât be going any better.
The Oakers got off to a great start against Central, the depleted defending state champions, and while the second half wasnât A-plus basketball, Coventry didnât let the Knights complete a comeback that would have had coach Tom Campbell pulling the figurative hairs off his shiny scalp in a 77-58 win Friday night at the Providence Career and Technical Academy.
KINGSTON â You do not play good basketball in every game during a season. Itâs a statistical improbability. The best teams in the country, even those in the past that have gone undefeated, donât do it. The game is a grind, almost as if by design, and while no one is happy with poor play, you deal with it because you have no other choice.
WEST WARWICK â The programâs reputation has been built on its offensive prowess.
Thursday night the West Warwick girls basketball team showed it can play a little on the other side of the court as well.
After falling down early, coach Mike Francois unleashed a press on East Greenwich that threw its offense out of sorts as the Wizardsâ defense frustrated the Avengers all night, which saved the game because the offense struggled to make anything from anywhere in a 45-38 win in their Division II opener.

KINGSTON â With Mike Powell on his right and Nikola Malesevic on his left, University of Rhode Island basketball coach Dan Hurley laughed when he talked about the film session the Rams had following their loss to Providence College on Dec. 6.
The players did too. It was an almost uncomfortable laughter; while the trio didnât get into the specifics of what was said, it was easy to tell the message behind what was said.
And much like the Ramsâ play that night, it wasnât good.
